So I’m just back from APSA (American Political Science Association) in Chicago, a steamy hot city at this time of year. The conference was good but not a little exhausting. I chaired and presented on a panel on Rhetoric and Conflict, which went well. Managed to meet a few new people, too (Michael Kaplan, among others) and also attend a few panels. I came across a particularly interesting paper on Melanie Klein’s work, which made me rethink some of the stuff I have been doing (my own paper drifted onto Klein’s work, though with less finesse) and enjoyed another on Althusser. To be honest, the conference is overwhelming and almost impossible to take in. It was good to see some folks and to finish off a journal competition with the other judges. Hotel was lovely, Crab restaurant excellent.
